Resumo: Wuthering Heights (O Morro dos Ventos Uivantes), de Emily Brontë, é considerado por muitos críticos como o maior romance da literatura inglesa. Um dos temas presentes na obra é a relação entre a natureza e a cultura. A primeira está relacionada com a casa do título, pertencente à família Earnshaw, e a segunda com a Thrushcross Grange, que pertence aos Linton. A partir da descrição das duas casas e dos personagens, pode-se estabelecer um diálogo entre irracional e racional, instinto e razão, natureza e cultura. Esta monografia visa analisar como esses conceitos aparecem no romance, a partir da composição e do enredo e, principalmente, através da relação existente entre Wuthering Heights e Thrushcross Grange. Como ajuda para a análise, foram examinados livros a respeito do modo que a sociedade inglesa encarava a natureza e a cultura: O campo e a cidade, de Raymond Williams, e O homem e o mundo natural, de Keith Thomas. Também foram lidas diversas obras de Jean-Jacques Rousseau, que tratou da relação do homem com a sociedade; livros a respeito do Romantismo e alguns autores representantes desse movimento: E.T.A. Hoffmann e Victor Hugo Ver menos

Abstract: Emily Brontës Wuthering Heights is considered by many critics the greatest novel of English literature. One of the themes that appears in the novel is the connection between nature and culture. The former is related to the titlees house, which belongs to the Earnshaw family, and the second is associated with Thrushcross Grange, which belongs to the Linton family. By the descriptions of the houses and characters, we can establish a connection between irrational and rational, instinct and reason, nature and culture. This monograph intends to analyze how these concepts emerge in the novel by the way it was composed, the story, and mainly by the relationship between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. To help the analysis, books about the way that English society viewed nature and culture were examined: Raymond Williamss The country and the city, and Keith Thomass Man and the natural world. Works by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who studied man and society, were also read, as well as books about Romanticism and some authors that represent this style: E. T. A. Hoffmann and Victor Hugo Ver menos
