Abstract: In this work we studied some nanostructures observed in experiments and other still waiting for experimental verification. The study was performed by means of theoretical methods (mechanic of continuous media and computer simulations), which allowed us to introduce some new and interesting physical properties that can be exploited in the construction of new mechanical or electronic devices. The first studied nanostructures were tubular structures formed by compression of carbon nanocones (TNCN) when submitted to mechanical impact by a spherical projectile. This study was conducted by means of a model based on the theory of continuous mechanics and molecular dynamics simulations. With this methodology, we estimate the mechanical stiffness and the percentage of TNCN kinetic energy absorbed during the impact. Then, using the same methodology for the study of TNCN, we investigated a possible new carbon nanostructure formed by stacking potato chips (nanopringles). This study showed that the stacked nanopringles are excellent absorbers of energy and for a given value of kinetic energy of impact have a inversion of collective symmetry. Finally, using first-principles simulations, we study the structural and electronic properties of trilayer consisting of graphene and boron nitride sheets. Our results show that it is possible to change the electronic behavior of graphene, the separation distance between the sheets and capacitive effects can be observed when trilayers are subjected to external electric fields
