Abstract: The aim of this research is to identify the main characteristics of the Brazilian innovation process and to verify the changes that are occurring in it, having as variable for analysis the size of the companies. The data will be obtained from the three latest editions of the Survey of Technological Innovation, conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The theoretical background is based mainly in Schumpeter and in the authors of Industrial Economy. The data from PINTEC to be used is related to the innovative effort and to the results achieved by the companies which implemented innovation, as well as to the obstacles that prevented some companies from innovating. Three editions of the research will be analyzed: 2003, 2005 e 2008. They correspond, respectively, to the periods of 2001 to 2003, 2003 to 2005 and 2006 to 2008. The data annual analysis makes it possible to descript the Brazilian innovation process, noticing different Standards according to the size of the companies. The comparison between the periods makes it possible to verify the changes occurred in this process, also splitting the companies by their size
