Resumo: Este estudo, realizado a partir de uma revisão de literatura e análise argumentativa, buscou dialogar com diversos aspectos da Capoeira, esta riquíssima manifestação da cultura corporal que possui características muito próprias e entendimentos muito subjetivos. Etimologicamente temos alguns pressupostos que apontam a palavra capoeira como oriunda do Guarani "capuera" ou "capôera"- mato miúdo, ralo ou, ainda, "cópuera"- roça que deixou de existir, mas ainda existem outras prerrogativas acerca deste assunto. Sua gênese até os dias atuais ainda é muito controversa. Acerca disto, neste estudo, alguns apontamentos foram realizados com o intuito de se estabelecer um melhor entendimento sobre as fragmentações ocorridas ao longo de sua história a partir de uma disputa pela simbologia étnica da Capoeira, a qual resultou em uma fragmentação de sua prática estabelecendo formas diferentes de sua expressão. Suas novas significações justificadas pelas relações preconceituosas c discriminatórias que permearam a sociedade especialmente a partir da abolição da escravidão são tangenciadoras das diferentes expressões da Capoeira na contemporaneidade que se encontra dividida em Capoeira regional - de Mestre Bimba e Capoeira Angola - de Mestre Pastinha. Abstract: This study, carried through from a revision of literature and an argue analysis, it searched to dialogue with diverse aspects of the Capoeira, this valuable manifestation of the corporal culture that has proper characteristics and subjective agreements. About the origin of the them Capoeira we have some estimated that they point this word as deriving of the Guarani "capuera" or "capôera" - small, thin weeds or, still, "cópuera" - field that left to exist, but still exist other prerogatives about of this subject. Its origin until the current days still is very confused. About of this, in this study, some notes had been carried through with the intention of establishing one better agreement on the occurred spellings throughout the history from a dispute for the ethnic symbology of the Capoeira, which resulted in a spelling of this practice, establishing different forms of this expression. Its new meanings justified from the prejudiced and discriminatory relations that especially had passed by the society from the abolition of the slavery are related to the different expressions of the Capoeira in the current time that is divided in regional Capoeira - of Bimba Master and Capoeira Angola - of Pastinha Master.
