Resumo: O tema desta pesquisa é a luta pela direito de dizer a língua, entendendo-se por dizer a língua um uso da palavra com poder de dizer, uma publicização do dizer. O interesse central é analisar os embates entre a lingüística e o senso comum que ocorreram no final do século XX e início do século XXI no Brasil, os quais tematizaram principalmente o ensino de norma culta e a restrição ao uso de estrangeirismos no país. Beneficiei-me dos estudos bakhtinianos utilizando o dialogismo como suporte para as análises feitas; neste campo teórico, a alteridade é constitutiva da subjetividade e é na dialogia que se dá a relação essencial entre o eu e o outro. Utilizei também a abordagem filosófica proposta por Michel Foucault, principalmente quando da reflexão sobre os micro-poderes que agem na mídia brasileira, em que dispositivos como produção de relevâncias em capas de revistas e citação de autoridades sobre língua ajudam a produzir o purismo lingüístico na passagem do século XX para o XXI. Encontrei, na mídia de referência, dois tipos de purismo, que chamei de purismo neoliberal e purismo nacionalista. Procedi a uma abordagem histórica do purismo nacionalista em gramáticas publicadas ao longo do século XX e em discursos de escritores românticos em meados do século XIX. Nas análises, aponto indícios de que o lugar de dizer a língua do escritor se constitui na relação com o purismo nacionalista e com o saber gramatical tradicional. Já os gramáticos, na luta para manter valorizado seu lugar de dizer a língua, mantêm um diálogo com a tradição gramatical purista e com a lingüística, de forma a modernizar os instrumentos lingüísticos. Os lingüistas, por sua vez, têm nas relações de ensino um espaço para dizer a língua ¿ mostro a influência da lingüística nos PCNs e nos vestibulares em relação à textualidade e à variação lingüística. No entanto, sua palavra não tem projeção na mídia ¿ nos embates diretos e indiretos com o purismo neoliberal e o nacionalista, há a construção de simulacros dos sujeitos envolvidos, em que se produz no social a representação do lingüista descomprometido com o cidadão e com a cultura nacional

Abstract: The theme of this research is the fight for the right of saying the language, understanding for saying the language a use of the word with the power of saying, a publicization of the saying. The central interest is to analyze the collisions between linguistics and the common sense that took place in the end of the XX century and at the beginning of the XXI century in Brazil. These collisions dealt mainly with the teaching of the educated norm and the restriction to the use of foreign expressions in the country. I benefited from the bakhtinian studies using the dialogism as a support for the analyses that were done; in this theoretical field, the alterity is constitutive of the subjectivity and it is in the dialogy that the essential relationship between the ¿I¿ and the other takes place. I also used the philosophical approach proposed by Michel Foucault, focusing mainly on the reflection about the micro-powers that act in the Brazilian media, in which devices as production of relevances in magazine covers and quotation of authorities on the language help to produce linguistic purism in the transition from the XX century to the XXI century. I found, in the reference media, two types of purism, which I called neoliberal purism and nationalistic purism. I accomplished a historical approach of the nationalistic purism in grammar books that were published along the XX century and in romantic writers' discourses in the middle of the XIX century. In the analyses, I pointed out indications that the writer's place of saying language is constituted in the relationship with the nationalistic purism and with the traditional grammatical knowledge. The grammarians, on the other hand, in the fight to maintain the value of their place of saying the language, maintain a dialogue with the puristic grammatical tradition and with linguistics, in order to modernize the linguistic instruments. The linguists have, in the teaching relationships, a space to say the language ¿ I show the influence of linguistics in the PCNs (National Curriculum Parameters) and in the college entrance exams in relation to textuality and to linguistic variation. However, their word doesn't have projection in the media ¿ in the direct and indirect collisions between the linguistics and the neoliberal and nationalistic purisms, there is a construction of simulacres of the involved subjects, in which it is produced, in the social part, the representation of a linguist that is neither compromised with the citizen nor with the national culture
