Resumo: Ao focalizar as mulheres da elite, tem-se como objetivo central verificar, por meio dos processos de divórcios, a relação dessas mulheres com a Justiça Eclesiástica. A proposta visa, portanto, apreender estas no momento de ruptura das alianças familiares, a fim de focalizar aquelas que após o casamento perante a Igreja, buscavam romper os laços matrimoniais. Vislumbra-se, dessa forma, a possibilidade de se realizar uma história das mulheres da elite colonial paulista, utilizando documentos referentes aos ¿processos de divórcio¿ e legislações civil e eclesiástica, complementados por testamentos, inventários, livro de notas, dispensas matrimoniais, registros de casamentos, processos crimes, narrativa de viajantes e genealogias referentes à Capitania de São Paulo. Com base na pesquisa efetuada procuramos verificar em que medida a atuação social destas mulheres foi maior do que a historiografia tem apontado, e, conseqüentemente, questionar os estereótipos referentes às mulheres da elite paulista cristalizados nas imagens de devoção e reclusão

Abstract: When looking at elite woman, we have as a target to check, by the divorces processes, the relation between woman and the Church Justice. The proposal has one intention, to learn the right moment of the breaking point of family alliance, in order to focus that one who after marriage in the Church, wanted to divorce. This way, the possibility of telling a story of woman of Paulista Colonial Elite, using documents of the ¿divorce processes¿ and civil and church legislation, added with testaments, inventory, books, marriage dispensation, birth certificate, criminal processes, travelers registers and genealogy regarding Capitania of São Paulo. Based on the research we tried to check how important the woman¿s social influence were compared with the History tells us, and consequently, ask the stereotype, regarding woman of Paulista elite crystallized in image of devotion and seclusion
