Abstract: For two years, a study on ectoparasites of small mammals was done in three highland areas ofthe Brazilian southeast (Serra da Fartura-SP, Parque Nacional do ltatiaia- RJ and Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina-SP). In each site a capture grid was set in the first year and a capture transect in the second year. In both years 100 Sherman' s traps (tive- trap) were used. The arthropods associated to the mammals were collected after brushing the hosts. A total of 7660 mites belonging to 21 taxa was collected. The different taxa of mites were related to the species and to the sex ofthe hosts, to the different collection sites, to the time and the year ofthe collection. Forty four ticks, belonging to at least 11 species, were collected, and of them is a new species of Ixodes. The ticks did not show a marked specificity to the hosts, apparently being more associated to the environment Two larvae of Rogenhofera dasypoda (Diptera: Cuterebridae) were found parasitizing two adultmales of Akodon serrensis (Rodentia: Cricetidae), at the Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina. Eleven flea species totaling 321 specimens were collected. There were 23 new records of tlea-mammal associations. The different flea species were related to the species and to the sex of their hosts, to the different collection sites, to the period and year of collection. Among the small mammals captured, the fleas presented a significant preference for rodents, but being also present on marsupiaIs. The tribe Amblyopinini (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) is associated to rodents and marsupials. Beetles ofthis tribe were found (95 Amb/yopinus and 147 Amb/yopinodes) asssociated to 10 species of rodents and three species of marsupiaIs. The occurrence of these beetles was positively associated with the -warm and humid months
