Resumo: A dissertação trata da critica de Rousseau à sociedade e às suas instituições, consideradas responsáveis pela corrupção do ser humano. O filósofo mostra como o homem passa do estado de natureza, em que é livre e o conflito ausente, para o estado social, tornandose escravo da opinião dos outros. A partir desse momento, ele é movido pelo desejo de distinção e transforma-se num ator, empregando aparências para ser aceito e estimado. Devido a essa dinâmica, a sociedade do século XVIII assemelha-se a um teatro, sublinhada pela própria instituição artística a que filósofos como Diderot e D' Alembert recorrem com o intuito de difundir a cultura e os bons costumes. Abstract: The present dissertation deals with Rousseau's critic to society and its institutions, which are considered responsible for the corruption of the human being. The philosopher demonstrates that man passes from the state of nature, in which he is free and there are no conflicts, to the social state, becoming enslaved by other people opinions. From this moment on, he is moved by the desire of distinction, he becomes an actor, employing disguises to be accepted and appreciated. Due to this dynamic, the 18thsociety is alike a theater, stressed by the very artistic institution which philosophers as Diderot and D' Alembert resort to with the intention of diffusing culture and morals.
