Agradecimentos: The 11th International Symposium on Very High Energy Cosmic Ray Interactions (ISVHECRI) was held at the 'Gleb Wataghin' Institute of Physics of the State University of Campinas, in Campinas, Brazil, on July 17-21, 2000, under the auspices of the Cosmic Ray Commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and its Emulsion Chamber Committee. Previous meetings of this biennial series had been held in Nakhodka (1980), La Paz and Rio de Janeiro (1982), Tokyo (1984), Beijing (1986), Lodz (1988), Tarbes (1990), Ann Arbor (1992), Tokyo (1994), Karlsruhe (1996), and Assergi (1998). The objectives of the 11th ISVHECRI included a focus on specific topics concerning high-energy cosmic ray interactions as studied by emulsion chamber techniques and through the observation of extensive air showers with surface arrays, as well as on the interconnection between cosmic ray observations and experiments with particle accelerators. Due to the current interest in extremely high energy cosmic rays, one of the invited talks addressed specifically this subject. Special attention was also given to the results of underground experiments, and to studies of the primary cosmic ray spectrum and composition, especially in the energy region of the so-called "knee" of the spectrum (1-10 PeV). Besides these main topics, results of cosmic ray phenomenology and astroparticle physics were also reported. The Organizing Committee is grateful to the Director of the IFGW, Professor C.H. de Brito Cruz, for the continuous and unremitting support. We would like to thank the International Advisory Committee for their advice in the preparation of the scientific program; in particular, special thanks are due to Professor G. Schatz, Professor H. Rebel, and especially to Professors Lawrence W. Jones and Antonella Castellina, who shared with us their experience in the previous symposia. This Symposium was made possible through the financial support of Fundag&o de Amparo Pesquisa do Estado de S#o Paulo (FAPESP), Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnol6gico (CNPq), Centro Latino-americano de Fisica (CLAF), Fundo de Apoio ao Ensino e Pesquisa (FAEP) from the State University of Campinas, and Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). At its July 20 meeting, the Emulsion Chambers Committee gratefully accepted the proposal made by Professors Peter Grieder and Lawrence Jones that the next ISVHECRI Symposium be held at the CERN Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2002
