Resumo: A síndrome do envelhecimento precoce bucal (SEPB), embora não seja uma terminologia oficialmente reconhecida em classificações médicas, ressaltas a necessidade de medidas de prevenção, promoção de saúde e em alguns casos, intervenção. Suas consequências são desgastes patológicos dos tecidos dentários, extrusão passiva, perda de dimensão vertical, comprometimento estético e funcional. Esse estudo teve caráter de revisão sendo elaborado através de literatura científica tendo como objetivos rever e destacar a principais modificações fisiológicas que caracterizam o envelhecimento e relacionar a fisiologia do envelhecimento à saúde oral reconhecendo o papel da Odontologia. Esta revisão de literatura iniciou com uma busca eletrônica em bases de dados, como PubMed/Medline, Scopus e Google Scholar. Foi realizada a busca com a expressão "EARLY ORAL AGING". A busca incluiu artigos publicados entre janeiro de 2012 e maio de 2023. Foi constatada a presença de 467 artigos disponíveis e após verificação de duplicidade, foi realizada triagem inicial pela leitura do título e resumo. Foram, portanto, selecionados 46 artigos, os quais eram estudos bibliográficos e estudos de caso. Pode-se concluir que existe a necessidade de tratamento odontológico específico para essa população, e a compreensão dos fatores de risco, mecanismos subjacentes, abordagens de tratamento e interação com outros especialistas para o correto manejo dessa síndrome Ver menos

Abstract: The syndrome of premature oral aging (SEPB), although not officially recognized terminology in medical classifications, highlights the need for preventive measures, health promotion, and, in some cases, intervention. Its consequences include pathological wear of dental tissues, passive eruption, loss of vertical dimension, aesthetic, and functional impairment. This study had a review nature and was elaborated based on scientific literature with the objective of revising and highlighting the main physiological modifications that characterize aging and relating the physiology of aging to oral health while recognizing the role of Dentistry. This literature review began with an electronic search in databases such as PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The search was conducted using the term "EARLY ORAL AGING". Articles published between January 2012 and May 2023 were included in the search. A total of 467 articles were found, and after removing duplicates, initial screening was performed by reading the titles and abstracts. Consequently, 46 articles were selected, which included bibliographic studies and case studies. It can be concluded that there is a need for specific dental treatment for this population, and an understanding of risk factors, underlying mechanisms, treatment approaches, and interaction with other specialists are fundamental for the proper management of this syndrome Ver menos
