Resumo: O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar a efetividade de ações de promoção de saúde bucal direcionadas aos adolescentes. A pergunta norteadora da pesquisa foi estruturada a partir da estratégia do acrônimo PICO (População, Intervenção, Comparador/Desfecho), P= adolescentes, I= ações de promoção de saúde oral, CO=efetividade. A busca inicial identificou 313 artigos, destes, 11 artigos preencheram os critérios de inclusão e foram submetidos à análise. Os principais achados foram que os estudos apresentaram dados da influência que as intervenções tiveram, esses variaram acerca das mudanças no conhecimento sobre saúde oral, higiene bucal, status bucal e qualidade de vida. Pode-se concluir que a promoção de saúde oral para adolescentes pode ser efetiva se forem usados métodos para primeiramente enriquecer o conhecimento desses jovens acerca da saúde oral e fazê-los mudar seus hábitos que os prejudicam. Para isso, o uso de recursos como apresentações com imagens e macromodelos são recomendados, para explicar as técnicas de higienização oral, quais as doenças bucais mais comuns, o papel do flúor e a importância de dietas balanceadas. Além disso, a estratégia peer-led se demonstra especialmente efetiva em aumentar a motivação dos jovens, portanto é recomendada. Para que haja bons resultados a longo prazo as ações de promoção de saúde oral devem ser reforçadas periodicamente. Abstract: The objective of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of oral health promotion actions targeted at adolescents. The guiding question of the research was structured based on the PICO acronym strategy (Population, Intervention, Comparator/Outcome), where P=adolescents, I=oral health promotion actions, CO=effectiveness. The initial search identified 313 articles, of which 11 articles met the inclusion criteria and were subjected to analysis. The main findings were that the studies provided data on the influence of the interventions, which varied concerning changes in knowledge about oral health, oral hygiene, oral status, and quality of life. It can be concluded that oral health promotion for adolescents can be effective if methods are used to first enrich the knowledge of these young individuals about oral health and encourage them to change habits that may harm them. In this regard, the use of resources such as presentations with images and macro-models is recommended to explain oral hygiene techniques, common oral diseases, the role of fluoride and the importance of balanced diets. Furthermore, the peer-led strategy proves to be particularly effective in increasing the motivation of young people and is therefore recommended. For long-term success, oral health promotion actions should be reinforced periodically.
