Resumo: Este trabalho tem como espaço urbano de interesse a Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP), que se subdivide politicamente em 39 municípios, do qual utilizaremos Arujá como estudo caso, município localizado na sub-região Leste da RMSP que vem apresentando taxas de crescimento altas quando comparadas com as taxas de crescimento do município polo, São Paulo e subpolo, Guarulhos. Assim o objetivo geral desta pesquisa é compreender o papel de Arujá-SP na dinâmica da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo. A fim de conhecer a natureza desse crescimento apresentado por Arujá, observaremos dados do Censo Demográfico relativos à distribuição espacial da população, como saldos migratórios e principais fluxos. Também serão analisadas informações e dados relativos à mobilidade pendular, tendo em vista que esse tipo de modalidade é um indicativo de que o crescimento do município se dá em um processo de complementaridade com o município polo e apontam para um processo de expansão urbana do município de São Paulo. A partir dessas informações espera-se compreender como os processos de reestruturação da RMSP impactam sobre os aglomerados urbanos situados ao seu redor, bem como, analisar os reflexos da reorganização metropolitana sobre o processo de redistribuição espacial da população, dado que, partiu-se da hipótese de que o crescimento de determinadas cidades da RMSP, como Arujá-SP, estaria associado ao perfil de mobilidade espacial que emergiu dos processos de desconcentração produtiva e reestruturação metropolitana. Portanto, essa mobilidade se daria em um contexto de complementaridade socioespacial dado que a cidade de São Paulo ainda polariza esses municípios. Abstract: The urban space of interest in this study is the São Paulo Metropolitan Area, which is politically subdivided into 39 municipalities, of which we will use Arujá as a case study. This municipality is located in the eastern sub-region of the São Paulo Metropolitan Area and has shown high growth rates when compared to the growth rates of the center municipality, São Paulo, and the intermediate center, Guarulhos. The general aim of this research is to understand the role of Arujá-SP in the dynamics of the São Paulo Metropolitan Area. In order to understand the nature of Arujá's growth, we will look at data from the Demographic Census on the spatial distribution of the population, such as migratory balances and the main flows. Information and data on commuting will also be analyzed, since this type of mobility is an indication that the municipality's growth is taking place in a process of complementarity with the hub municipality and points to a process of urban expansion in the municipality of São Paulo. On the basis of this data, we hope to understand how the restructuring processes of the São Paulo Metropolitan Area impact on the urban agglomerations located around it, as well as to analyse the effects of metropolitan reorganization on the process of spatial redistribution of the population, given that we started from the hypothesis that the growth of certain cities in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area, such as Arujá-SP, would be associated with the spatial mobility profile that emerged from the processes of productive deconcentration and metropolitan restructuring. Therefore, this mobility would take place in a context of socio-spatial complementarity, given that the city of São Paulo still polarizes these municipalities.
