Resumo: Por meio de duas narrativas sobre vampiros, sendo elas La Morte Amoureuse (1836), de ThéophileGautier, e Carmilla (1872), de Sheridan Le Fanu, este artigo pretende estudar o modo como amonstruosidade é articulada em meio a essas narrativas, principalmente levando em conta a ideia damonstruosidade moral, bem como a relação entre o monstro e o desejo, ao considerar a sedução inerenteque permeia a figura do vampiro, especialmente no que tange ao sentimento de asco e desejo geradopelo monstro. Assim, este artigo busca mostrar uma breve história do vampiro na cultura literária, em quea criatura passa do folklore à figura do vampiro aristocrático e sedutor, na medida em que as duasnarrativas apresentadas são precursoras nesse sentido. Abstract: Through two narratives about vampires, being them La Morte Amoureuse (1836), by Théophile Gautier, andCarmilla (1872), by Sheridan Le Fanu, this paper intends to study how monstrosity is articulated in thesenarratives, mainly considering the idea of moral monstrosity, as well as the relationship between the monsterand desire, considering the inherent seduction that permeates the figure of the vampire, especially regardingthe feeling of disgust and desire generated by the monster. Thus, this paper seeks to show a brief history ofthe vampire in literary culture, in which the creature moves from folklore to the figure of the aristocratic andseductive vampire, since the two presented narratives are precursors in this sense.
