Resumo: Este ensaio retoma a linha central da crítica de Arlindo Machado à ontologia da fotografia com o objetivo de discutir o antropocentrismo que marca a teoria clássica e levantar hipóteses sobre outras maneiras de pensar a imagem técnica. Discute-se a divisão ontológica entre o mundo (Natureza), o humano (Homem) e a técnica como marca da ontologia clássica. Como consequência dessa crítica, elabora-se a hipótese de que o reconhecimento da materialidade dos processos de produção e circulação da imagem implicaria a emergência de ontologias múltiplas e heterogêneas da imagem. Segundo tal argumento, a imagem se torna a cristalização de um modo específico de compreender o mundo que o artista codifica em sua obra. Essa concepção conduz à potencialização do que se concebe como aspecto performativo da imagem na cultura contemporânea

Abstract: This essay resumes Arlindo Machado’s main critiques of the ontology of photography to discuss the anthropocentrism that marks the classic theory and hypothesize other ways of thinking about the technical image, based on the ontological division between the world (Nature), the human (Man), and technique. As a consequence of this critique, the text argues that the recognition of the materiality of the processes of image production and circulation would imply the emergence of multiple and heterogenous ontologies of the image. As such, the image crystalizes a specific way of understanding the word, which the artist encodes in their work. This conceptualization leads to the enhancement of the performative aspect that the image assumes in contemporary culture
