Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é a investigação sobre certas noções de "música brasileira" na Revista Brasileira de Música (RBM) entre os anos de 1934 e 1945. O periódico foi criado dentro do Instituto Nacional de Música (INM) como um instrumento de ampliação da difusão de conhecimentos musicais diversos. A análise foi feita através de leituras do conjunto completo das fontes, coletando informações sobre o INM e a RBM. Como resultado, identificamos que as noções de música brasileira foram realizadas através da articulação da ideia de lapidação de materiais sonoros autóctones. Identificamos também que esse grupo de autores utilizou as noções de música popular e música folclórica de modo bastante estável em termos linguísticos e com acepções idênticas. Já as noções mais norteadas por referenciais europeus foram mobilizadas através do uso de termos mais variados como música artística, clássica, moderna, erudita, séria, boa e música pura. Concluímos que a concepção de música brasileira mobilizada por esse grupo tinha contornos bastante específicos e que termos gerais como música erudita e música popular precisam ser considerados em sua historicidade Ver menos

Abstract: The aim of this article is to investigate certain notions of "Brazilian music"
in the Revista Brasileira de Música (RBM) [Brazilian Journal of Music] between the years
1934 and 1945. This periodical was created within the Instituto Nacional de Música
(INM) [National Institute of Music/Brazil] as an instrument to expand the dissemination
of a broad range of musical knowledge. The analysis was conducted by reading a
complete set of sources, collecting information about the INM and the RBM. As a result,
we identified that notions of Brazilian music were realized through the articulation of
the idea of cutting autochthonous sound materials. We also identified that this group
of authors consistently used notions of popular music and folk music in both linguistic
terms and with identical meanings. Notions more founded on European references were
mobilized by using various terms such as artistic, classical, modern, erudite, serious, good,
and pure music. We conclude that the conception of Brazilian music mobilized by the
Revista held very specific contours and that the use of general terms such as classical
music and popular music must be considered within their historicity Ver menos
