This research focuses on the construction of body image by boys and girls belonging to different social and economic realities, aged between 6 and 12 years old, residents of Brasilia, frequenters of beauty salons. Starting from the principle that children are agents and subtle interpreters of their cultural contexts, the narratives of these social subjects about the processes of constructing their beauty are prioritised. I aim to develop an ethnographic work with a socio-anthropological approach to childhood, based on gender studies, from an intersectional perspective with other social markers of difference such as class and race. Drawing on Kramer's (2002) work, which prioritises ethical concerns at all stages of research, which is essential when working with child actors, I aim to achieve the following objectives: a) To analyse the experiences of girls and boys with the services offered by beauty parlours, in order to understand how the categories of body and beauty, which are used on a daily basis in these establishments, are handled by the children, and how they are reflected in the processes of producing their self-images and body perceptions; b) to understand the ways in which children of different classes experience and make sense of the construction of their physical appearance, and to identify what this reveals about the social environment in which they are situated; c) to encourage reflection on the social construction of beauty and its relationship to social markers of difference (gender, class, race). To carry out this study, I base the methodology on the reflections of Sarmento (2003), Cohn (2005) and Corsaro (2011), who emphasise the importance of socio-anthropological research that highlights the protagonism of children's points of view, thus valuing work done with them and not simply on them. In this sense, I am committed to developing collaborative forms of knowledge construction, seeking to do work that emphasises children's expectations and understands them in their diversity. I emphasise that the development of this study highlights the positions and negotiations of children faced with the pervasive presence of the beauty market in their everyday lives and the social valorisation of a limited aesthetic standard Ver menos
