Abstract: While studying the collections of Cryptangieae (Cyperaceae) at the New York Botanical Garden, we found specimens of two undescribed species, which based on their achene morphology are assigned to the genus Cephalocarpus. We name and describe these two new species, C. insolitus and C. neblinensis, from the Guayana Highland of northern South America. Both species have three fimbriate hipoginium scales on opposite sides of the fruit and a constriction zone between the main body and the beak of the achene, as in other species of Cephalocarpus. Resumo: Durante o estudo das coleções de Cryptangieae (Cyperaceae) no Jardim Botânico de Nova Iorque, foram encontrados espécimes de duas espécies desconhecidas para a ciência; as quais, com base na morfologia do aquênio, pertencem a Cephalocarpus. As espécies foram nomeadas e descritas: C. insolitus e C. neblinensis; advindas do planalto das Guianas no norte da América do Sul. Ambas espécies apresentam três escamas hipóginas fimbriadas opostas aos lados do fruto e uma região de constrição entre a base e o bico do aquênio, como as demais espécies de Cephalocarpus. São providas ilustrações, mapas de distribuição e comentários sobre a taxonomia e distribuição para cada espécie. Ver menos
