Resumo: Este estudo visa à análise da recepção de imagens de caça ao leão no repertório helenístico durante os séculos IV e III a.C. Sua principal tese advoga que esse tema figurativo, presente em sociedades como a assíria e a persa, retornou à arte grega após as conquistas de Alexandre Magno. Ademais, a partir do cruzamento entre dois motivos centrais desse repertório - caça e guerra - é argumentado que a arte do período confere alguma senciência aos animais retratados, graças ao emprego de uma Pathosformel específica – o pescoço torcido de homens e feras. Do ponto de vista teórico e metodológico, a tese ressalta a materialidade das obras estudadas e se inspira nos conceitos formulados por Aby Warburg Ver menos

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the reception of lion hunting images in the Hellenistic repertoire during the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. Its main thesis advocates that this figurative theme, found in societies such as Assyrian and Persian, returned to the Greek art after Alexander the Great’s conquests. Moreover, starting from an intersection between two central themes on this repertoire - hunt and war - it is argued that the art of this period provides some sentience to the depicted animals, thanks to the use of a specific Pathosformel - the twisted necks of men and beasts. From a theoretical and methodological point of view, the PhD thesis emphasizes the materiality of the investigated works, and is also inspired by the concepts formulated by Aby Warburg Ver menos
