Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyse the locatives, expressed mainly by prepositional phrases and adverbs, which take place in the first book of Peregrinatio Aetheriae. This book was written in the IV century of our age and is one of the most important sources of vulgar latino We intend to verify if these expressions that denote place can be arranged in complements or adjuncts. The analysis, made in the framework of Theta Theory of Generative Grammar, shows that there is a difference between complements and adjuncts in both classical and vulgar latino However, the use of locatives in P.A. shows confusion between the places ubi and quo. vVe suggest that this confusion begins with the adverbs and increases by the lost of final m of accusative. Furthermore, this research points out characteristic problems of vulgar latin: the loss and confusion in the case system, the expansion of prepositions usage and the tendency to appear the sentence elements in an order closer to romance languages than classical latin
