Abstract

Resumo: Em 1989, Milton Hatoum publica Relato de um certo oriente, seu livro de estréia. Narrativa sem as típicas cores regionalistas, provoca uma mudança de tom ao tratar a Amazônia e sua paisagem, fugindo das ilusões românticas e de uma perspectiva de inocência virginal. Frente a essa possibilidade outra de interpretar e compreender a região amazôniça, o presente estudo - Entre orientes: viagens e memórias - pretende analisar o percurso dessa narrativa capaz de romper com velhos topói representativos da região. Dentro de um panorama em que imagens de Amazônia se colocam desde os relatos de viajantes e cronistas já no século XVI, busca-se demonstrar como através da linguagem toma-se possível reapresentar uma Amazônia menos mítica, maravilhosa, exótica, apesar de certo oriente

Abstract: In 1989 Milton Hatoum publishes The tree of the seventh heaven, his debut book. A novel devoid of a typical regionalist local color, it causes a change of tone as it deals with the Amazon an its environment, shunning romantic illusions and the point of view of a virginal innocence. In view of this other possibility of interpreting and understanding the Amazon region, the present study - In between Orients: travels and memories - analyses the trajectory of this narrative, capable of breaking apart the old representative tópoi of the regfon. Within a traditional representation framework of the Amazon, which remounts to the XVI century, one here attempts to show how, by means of language, it is possible to re-present an Amazon less mythical, wonderful, and exotic, even though still a certain Orient
