Abstract: | This study reports extraction of Campomanesia xanthocarpa fruit using supercritical CO2 and its chemical composition and biological activity analysis. The experiments were carried out at 15.0, 20.0 and 25.0 MPa and 313.15, 333.15 and 353.15 K. The maximum yield observed was 3.90 wt% at 313.15 K and 25 MPa. The pressure had a significant and positive effect on extraction yields, whereas the temperature effect was significant and negative. Gas chromatography analysis showed that the main compounds identified were alpha-eudesmol, beta-eudesmol, gamma-eudesmol, caryophyllene (E), alpha-sabinene, beta- sabinene, germacrene B, delta-cadinene, humulene and selina-3,7(11)-diene. The highest values of antioxidant activity were found for the extracts obtained at (313.15 K and 25 MPa) and at (353.15K and 15.0 MPa), determined by the DPPH method and the phosphomolybdenum reduction method, respectively. The extract obtained at 353.15K and 25 MPa presented the highest phenolic content (39.12 mg GAE/g of extract). The extract obtained at 313.15 K and 15 MPa presented the maximum antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The Gram-negative bacteria tested (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhimuruim) and Listeria monocytogenes were completely resistant toward the C. xanthocarpa fruit extracts.
