|Abstract:||Due to the growth of the ethanol market in Brazil, in some cases, refineries have dedicated efforts to replacing part of the gasoline production to diesel fuel. However, the minimum flash point (FP) specification of 38°C (100°F) is a restriction to the incorporation of light fractions in the diesel pool. Therefore, the accurate FP determination of light fractions is essential for the prediction of the FP of the finished product and consequently for the blend optimization. The widely accepted method for the determination of FP (ASTM D56) requires some experimental conditions that make its use difficult to obtain FP of light fractions in quality control laboratories in routine analysis. Considering the context presented above, a new methodology was developed to indirectly determine the FP of light fractions, using mixtures of light fractions with standard samples. Furthermore, from the data generated, a new correlation for FP prediction of light fractions was adjusted. The results showed that the proposed methodology is adequate to meet industrial requirements, reducing time and experimental error involved in the PF estimation of diesel fuel.|
